Alana received her A.B. with Highest Honors in Neurobiology, Mind, Brain and Behavior from Harvard University. She then went on to complete a joint MD/PhD at Columbia University, conducting her doctoral work in Neurobiology and Behavior in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Jessell, focusing on the development of spinal sensory and motor circuits that underlie motor control. Her graduate thesis work resulted in two first author papers, both in Neuron, and was awarded the Kavli Award for Research in Neuroscience and the Lippard Memorial Research Award in Neuroscience.
