Mazdak Bradberry, MD, PhD, is a neurobiologist, biochemist, and psychiatry resident at Columbia. After earning a
degree in chemistry at Northwestern, Dr. Bradberry received his MD and PhD at the University of Wisconsin. His PhD work, supervised by Dr. Ed Chapman, explored the molecular hardware involved in synaptic transmission and led to trials of clinical interventions for patients with mutations in synaptic proteins. Dr. Bradberry then completed postdoctoral work in the lab of Joshua Coon, in which he applied mass spectrometry to probe new depths of synaptic biology with a focus on protein glycosylation. Clinically, he is interested in the development and application of treatments for mood disorders, with a focus on therapies using psychedelic compounds and MDMA. His work as a lead author has been published in the Journal of Neuroscience, Neuron, and JAMA Psychiatry. He looks forward to working in both basic neuroscience and clinical psychiatry in the coming months and years.
