August 2023 – Dick Ravitch, who died a few weeks ago, was one of the last exponents of an extraordinary generation of American public servants. Born at the onset of the Great Depression, this generation inherited the ideals of the New Deal and sought to apply them to American public administration throughout the second half of the 20th century and well into the 21st, demonstrating unwavering faith in the capacity of public authorities to foster progressive change.
