The Foundation focuses on underwriting fundamental research into how the human brain functions, particularly its affects on behavior. In addition the Foundation supports pure research on the highest level, especially at the intersection of disciplines in order to break down academic and scientific boundaries in research. The Foundation created the Leon Levy and Shelby White Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior, a nexus for the work of laboratories studying neural systems, neurogenetics, neural development and neurochemistry. Torsten Weisel, Nobel Prize winning scientist, currently serves as Chairman of the Center.

The Foundation, through its grants to King's College London, supports the pharmacological and medical research of Prof. Gustav V.R. Born at the William Harvey Research Institute.
